Surf Report for Ecuador October 11, 2004

The swell has died and we have glassy conditions with three foot sets out of the southwest. The water seems to be warming up a bit and we should see the first norths in the next few weeks.

Ecuador is in its transitional period from the southwest swells generated off the coast of chile moving into the swells produced in the gulf of alaska. The size and intensity of the swell depends on the ocean currents. Once the el nino current starts to dominate the Humblot or Peruvian current the north swells do not fight the cold water current from the south. This is why the water temperature is so important in swell perdiction.
