Why take a Guided Surfing Excursion?

Quality of Waves-
If you are on a short surf trip, of a few weeks or less, it will be impossible to find the quality of waves that a local can lead you to. If you consider the variables: Swell direction, time of year, winds, tides, and how each of these affects the spots. Then you throw in the secret spots that you will never find on your own. It is clearly impossible to get the same quality with a rental car on your own in a short time. If you plan on a trip of a month or more that is different you may have time to met people and figure out all the details. If you are tyring to do a hit-and-run surf trip, don't waste your time and don't miss waves.

Security:
Driving in Ecuador is tricky. The turnoffs are not marked and it is very easy to get lost asking directions. Your surf guide knows all the right roads, right times, when to go slow, when it’s okay to go fast and the shortcuts. There is much less chance of some kind of problem or accident driving with someone who knows. He also knows the turnoffs to the surf spots which are not marked. Use his years of experience to get the waves and dont get lost.

Spanish:
No ones speaks English on the roadside in Ecuador so if you do not speak the language not only will you be lost down some wrong turnoff you will be immediately spotted as a tourist since you do not speak Spanish. Its amazing how many people get into trouble this way.

Cost:
The good thing about these guided trips is that you know the full cost before you start. Rental cars have insurance and limits on kilometers. Hotels have service charges and taxes. There are tolls on the roads and Police often want money. The surf travel companies have negotiated prices with the airlines, and the guide has negotiated packages with the hotels so it really comes about the same, only a lot better for you. You pay up front and are picked up and taken to the waves, have great accommodations and great food. No worries, no hassles and in the end it comes out to be the same price.
